On June 22, 2018, Far Eastern University (FEU) conducted their Annual Baccalaureate Mass for the graduating students of Batch 2018. Compared to previous years, the Baccalaureate Mass this year happened to be extra special as the Far Eastern University Central Student Organization (FEUCSO), together with the various Institute Student Councils prepared big surprises for the seniors. A message stated by Mr Reuben Jade Sobrevilla (FEUCSO President-elect) saying, “For our graduating students leaving FEU, it is only right to give them a final ‘blast’, as they say.” The celebration consisted of the original Baccalaureate Mass and a mini fair led by the Student Councils as the seniors waited for the Mass.
FEUCSO and the Institute student councils engaged the seniors with various booths that had different gimmicks and freebies. There were free ice cream, photo booths, giveaways and more.
After the fair, a few graduating students were asked for their thoughts about FEU and the Baccalaureate Mass, and Vince Mark Gil Gianan of Institute of Accounts, Business and Finance (IABF) and a drummer of the University stated, “I will surely miss all the wonderful memories in FEU. I can say that I will be leaving this university with the core values of Fortitude, Excellence and Uprightness. All the hard work and sacrifices is worth it! And for my most memorable moment inside this university is definitely the Baccalaureate Mass. I am honoured to have a chance to perform proudly with all my passion for the last time as a Member of the FEU Cheering Squad - Drummers. As we play the different cheers of our beloved university in front of all the graduating seniors of batch 2018, I was very happy but at the same time sad because I will miss performing for our beloved school. I will miss my all friends and my second family, the FEU Drummers! Our One Brave Team! One Strong Malakas!”
Moreover, Christine Pastrana who came from the same Institute said, “I think the baccmass is overwhelming. And the preparation was very welcoming and they accommodated all the graduating students well. I’m glad they recognized the sacrifices and perseverance of each graduating students to prepare this big for us”.
Around 4:00 in the afternoon, the parade for the seniors began. Wearing their toga and lei proudly which matched the colour of their Institutes; they graced the FEU grounds for the last as they smiled through the crowd. After everyone was situated properly, the Baccalaureate Mass then came next which started at 6:00 in the evening.
When the mass ended, the President of FEU Dr. Michael Alba, rendered his last message to the seniors. Next was the fireworks display that made the night sky lively, followed by the FEU hymn. The grounds of FEU were then woken up by the proud FEU boosters.
The celebration did not end there as the host took the stage to lead a Trivia game, where they asked questions about the FEU history. Prizes were given to every person who got an answer correct.
Sharing his thoughts to the whole preparation, Sobrevilla said, “The entirety of the said event under our administration became a motivation for us to focus on getting even better for our next projects. The event was an enjoyable learning process as well as being the start of greater challenges to come.” He added, “To all our graduating Tamaraws, congratulations and best of luck to your future endeavours! May you continue to uphold the values of fortitude, excellence, and uprightness on your journey to the real world. Moreover, may you also never forget to be part of building a better nation through your chosen professions and remember that FEU will always welcome you home.”
In addition, Almiron said, “To my fellow graduating students, this is the real battle that we all need to face. Graduation is an end and a beginning. I do hope that as we face the real world, we’ll always be guided by the core values of Fortitude, Excellence and Uprightness. This country needs fierce and brave people who are willing to fight for righteousness, justice and truth now more than ever. This country needs us.”
The after party took place after the event proper.
